Writing Tip: Editing yourself too early?

My writing tip today is actually something I learned to take very seriously as a songwriter--don't edit yourself too early. Writers want to get the words just right. However, narrowing down your possibilities too soon can be limiting and counter-productive. Certainly edit yourself, but only after you've fully explored and entertained different angles for your idea.
